Vampire Hunter D (吸血鬼(バンパイア)ハンターD) is a 1985 Japanese original video animation produced by Ashi Productions, based on the novels written by Hideyuki Kikuchi and illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. It was one of the first OVAs released outside of Japan and remains a cult classic in the English-speaking world. Billed by the Japanese producers as a "dark future science-fiction romance", Vampire Hunter D is set in the year 12,090 AD, in a post-nuclear holocaust world where a vampire nobility terrorizes human peasants.
The OVA was dubbed and released by Urban Vision on October 17, 2000. Sentai Filmworks acquired the license for the OVA and released it with a new dub on September 25, 2015.
