James LaRue Avery (born November 27, 1945 in Suffolk, Virginia, USA; passed December 31, 2013 in Glendale, California, USA) was an American actor best known for his role of Philip Banks in the '90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He is also known for the voice of Shredder in the first Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series.
